Early Memories

So what's your earliest memory of a classic event?

Mine is is 1977; 13 years old living in northern Canada watching Wide World of Sport – which rarely showed motorcycle sport of any kind – suddenly a 2o minute segment came on about an event called the ISDT. It showed clips of strange of European motorcycles (remember I was in northern Canada!) competing in some sort of strange cross-country race. The spectators were helping the guys get up slippery slopes and climbs.

It was magical. I believe the event was the 1977 ISDT from Czechoslovakia. The images have never left me and to this day I can still remember the scenes.

Then I saw On Any Sunday………………………………I was hooked.

Early memories? I have lots.

I believe it was 77, there was an open class Canadian GP round in St Gabriel de Brandon Quebec. My dad, me and a few buddies took the Dodge van, some cases of beer, and a mattress to sleep on. It was the first time I saw Roger Decoster, and riding an RM100 at the time, it was a really big deal for me. I couldn't believe just how incredibly fast he was. The track was fast, treacherous, and all natural terrain, the way motocross was intended to be.

Where in Canada are you from, Chris?
